Frequently Asked Questions
What is The Grief Recovery Method® program?
It’s a once-a-week face-to-face meeting that gives you the tools, space, and support to
work through and release the pain of a major life loss.
What losses are okay to work on?
All losses are welcome. Death, divorce, and diagnosis are the most common. There are over 43 identified losses that can cause grief. When possible, groups will be specific to a loss: death, divorce, estrangement, the end of a relationship, etc., but this is not always possible.
What can I expect from our time together?
During each 60 minute session, you’ll be welcomed into a confidential, non-judgmental space where you’ll be expected to share the truth of your story as it happened to you. You’ll also be expected to complete weekly reading and homework assignments.
From me, you can expect a compassionate, non-judgmental, safe space, and an open heart ready to receive your story.
Should I choose private or group support?
In a private session, you’ll work directly with me at a time convenient to both of us that we will schedule in advance. These sessions are not recorded and the expectation is that you will attend every session on-time. You’ll get direct support from me throughout. We follow the Grief Recovery Method framework.
Private sessions last eight weeks.
In the small group program, you’ll work with me as well as others. There is a pre-set day and time for the group program, no recordings, and the expectation that you will attend every session on-time. You will get support from me in the first weeks of the program, and in the later weeks of the program, you will receive from and give support to the members of your group. The group follows the Grief Recovery Method framework and you may partner with other members of your group for discussion. The group size is limited to 8 participants.
Small group sessions last eight weeks.
Both offerings are on-line through zoom.
Do I have to attend every session?
Yes. If you miss a private session, you’ll be asked to reschedule your session with the possibility of incurring a fee.
If you miss a group session after the first two weeks, you’ll be asked to leave the current program with the opportunity to finish with another group at another time.
What should I bring?
A notebook and something to write with. Books and worksheets will be provided for you.
